Utica, NY (1/22/2012) – Junior goalie Nick Therrien of the Utica College men’s hockey team was named the ECAC Men’s West Goalie of the Week and the College’s Male Athlete of the Week after an impressive 2-0 weekend in net for the nationally-ranked No. 4/8 Pioneers. 

Therrien totaled 68 saves over the course of two ECAC West victories this past weekend. He stopped a season-high 39 shots in the Pioneers’ 5-3 win over nationally-ranked Hobart Saturday. Utica was outshot 42-23 in the victory over the Statesmen and Therrien came up with big saves on his way to helping kill seven Hobart power-plays. He also added 29 saves as the Pioneers’ were outshot 33-25 in a 6-4 win over Elmira on Friday night. He helped kill five penalties in the win over the Soaring Eagles.

Therrien now has a 12-2 record this season and he has a 2.27 goals against average.  His save % of .921 ranks 25th in the country and his winning % of .857 ranks fifth nationally. 

The Pioneers (14-3, 5-2 ECAC West) return home from a four game road trip on Friday night when they host Neumann University in an ECAC Men’s West Conference contest at 7 p.m.  The contest will be hosted by United Way.
