Utica, NY (3-17-14) - Junior second baseman Benjamin Hobaica of the Utica College baseball team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week Monday for his impressive performance Sunday on opening day of the Russ Matt Tournament in Winter Haven, FL.

Hobaica batted 1.000 on Sunday going 5-for-5 with four walks and 10 runs scored as he led UC to a convincing sweep over the University of Maine-Farmington.  In game one he went 2-for-2 with four walks and six runs scored including a double and one stolen base and followed up in game two going 3-for-3 with four runs scored and one walk.  UC won 22-6 and 15-1 (five innings).

The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday as they face Upstate New York rival Vassar College.
