Utica, NY (September 8, 2014) – Junior Kyle Cairns of the Utica College men’s cross country team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week after winning the Steven A. Warde Invitational hosted by SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday. Cairns finished 1st overall for the first time in his collegiate career with a time of 29:12, 33 seconds ahead of all other runners.

Cairns’ performance helped lead the Pioneers to its third consecutive win at the Steven A. Warde Invitational. UC dominated the podium, as the top five finishers were all Pioneers.

Cairns finishes sixth overall at the Cobleskill meet last season and second overall at the Pioneers' season-opening meet last weekend at SUNYIT.

The Pioneers will have a week off before heading to Rochester on Saturday, Sept. 20 for the University of Rochester Yellow Jacket Invitational.  The race will be held at Genesee Valley Park and is scheduled to start at 11 a.m
