UTICA, NY – Freshman Sam Kaczmarek, of the Utica College men’s track and field teams, was named the College's Male Athlete of the Week Monday for his record breaking performance this past Saturday at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic.

Kaczmarek shattered a school-record in the shot put with a hurl of 16.13 meters placing second behind UMASS Lowell’s John Fiorello who edged out a victory with a toss of 16.14 meters. His toss currently ranks him 13^th in the country on the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Qualifying List.

The Pioneers are back in action next Saturday Feb. 14th for the 2015 Empire 8 Indoor Championships hosted by Houghton College. The championship events are slated for 10 a.m. at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex.
