Junior pitcher Brittany Meka of the Utica College softball team has been selected as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Pioneer’s games last week.

Meka strikeouts and picked up two wins in five appearances last week.  On Tuesday, she allowed just one hit in a 5-0 shutout over Union College.  On Sunday, she fanned five, did not allow a run, and had a crucial hit that started the Utica rally as the Pioneers came back and knocked off conference frontrunner, Ithaca College 4-3.

She is leading the pitching staff with a 9-6 record and a 1.64 earned run average which is fourth in the conference. Meka also ranks third with opponents hitting just .203 against her and is second in the Empire 8 with 102 strikeouts.

The team returns to action on Monday for a home double header against Skidmore College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
