Utica, NY - Junior thrower Katrina Cornick of the Utica College women's basketball team has been named UC Female Athlete of the Week for her impressive performance this past weekend at the Empire 8 Championships at Houghton College.

Cornick was named as the conference's field athlete of the meet after an explosive two-day performance between the shot put and weight throw. In Sunday's weight throw competition, she made a big step toward the school record while locking up her first championship in that event with an incredible throw of 15.33 meters. Combined with a third place finish in Friday's shot put competition, the coaches at the meet deemed her all-around throwing achievements as the best field event performance at the meet.

UC track & field returns to action this weekend for the All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Conference Championship at Nazareth College.
