The Utica College men's soccer team netted all six of its goals in the first half and dominated play all game, earning its seventh straight victory, in a 6-0 win over visiting Alfred University in the Empire 8 Conference opener for both squads Saturday night. Freshman Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) netted one goal and added two assists to pace the Pioneers. The contest was part of the College's Homecoming Weekend.

With the win the Pioneers, who are off to their best start in program-history, improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. UC avenged a 0-0 tie at Alfred last season by out shooting the Saxons 26-4. Freshman keeper's Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) and Andrew Boniche (Trumbull, CT/St. Luke's) each played 45 minutes and combined for the shut out.

Freshman Jonathan Peterson opened the scoring for the Pioneers, off an assist from senior Roberto Sgueglia (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen), to give UC a 1-0 lead 5:55 into the contest. Hoxsie followed less than 15 minutes later with his sixth goal of the season off an assist from classmate Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) to give UC a 2-0 lead. Sgueglia added his team-high eighth goal of the season just over two minutes later when he headed home a goal off a crossing pass from Hoxsie to extend the Pioneers advantage to 3-0.

In the 24th minute Peterson netted his second goal of the contest after a perfect through ball from Hoxsie led to a 4-0 lead for the home team. Senior David Garcia (Fairport, NY/Fairport) went on to score his fourth goal of the season off a free-kick assist from Jonathan Wood (Derry, NH/Pinkerton) in the 32nd minute, before Alex Sheridan (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) netted his first collegiate goal, assisted by Gracia to give UC a 6-0 lead at the half.

The second half proved to be rather uneventful as the Pioneers cleared the bench allowing 29 different players to see action.

Utica returns to the pitch next Saturday when they travel to conference foe Nazareth College to take on the Golden Eagles at 12 p.m.
