Senior Brett Darrow got things going for UC by heading a goal home in the 8th minute
Box Score Utica 2, Ithaca 0 - Men's Soccer Final

Utica, NY (10/13/2012) – The Utica College men's soccer team helped the athletic department complete the
Chris Perkins
homecoming sweep by defeating Ithaca College 2-0 in Empire 8 Conference play in the final contest of the action packed day on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Saturday.  UC hosted four teams on homecoming and defeated all four of its opponents in shut out fashion.  The field hockey squad started the day with a 1-0 win over St. John Fisher, the football team down E8 opponent Frostburg 41-0, the men's tennis team downed visiting Cazenovia 9-0 and the men's soccer team wrapped things up with a great 2-0 win over the visiting Bombers.

UC (6-7-1, 1-3 E8) has now won two straight contests and handed Ithaca (6-3-4, 3-1 E8) its first Empire 8 loss of the season.  Utica hopes to keep the ball rolling next Saturday when it hosts game three of a four game home stand against conference opponent Alfred University at 1 p.m.

Kevin McAllister
Senior Brett Darrow (Poland, NY/Poland) scored his first goal of the year, a beautiful header directly off a corner kick from Jeffrey Cupka (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional), to put the Pioneers in the driver's seat in the 8th minute, 1-0.

Team leading scorer Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) helped add to the Pioneers lead when he netted his ninth goal of the year, from 15 yards out, off an assist from junior captain Chris Perkins (Charlton, MA/Saint John's of Shrewsbury) to put UC up 2-0 in the 37th minute. McAllister moved into sole possession of third place on the College's all-time scoring list, as he now has 44 points on 18 goals and eight assists.  He surpassed former UC standout Jon Wood, who tallied 42 points in his four year career.

A strong defensive effort -- led by Perkins and company -- for the remainder of the contest helped UC secure its first conference win of the year.

Junior goalie Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) had to make just one save in his fourth shutout of the season.  Caruso, who is the College's all-time leader in career shut outs, now has 28 victories in less than three full seasons between the pipes.

Both teams recorded 12 shots on the afternoon, but just one went on net for the visiting Bombers.  Utica earned a 5-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Ithaca goalie Kenny Chapman stopped four shots in his first loss of the year.
