Women's Hockey Hosts Williams in Final Game of the Semester

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team looks to continue its winning streak this Saturday as it hosts Williams College in the final game before the semester break.  The puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a 4-0 win over Morrisville State on Wednesday…  Three players registered their first collegiate goals as freshmen Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall), Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects), and Taylor Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks) all found the back of the net… Junior Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) also scored for Utica, and seven different players registered one assist on the evening… Junior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) made 19 saves in net as she broke the College's single-season shutout record with her fifth clean sheet of the year. 
 
KEEP IT "GOIN": Junior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) has stepped up in the crease for the Pioneers so far this year… She set a new program record with five shutouts this season and she has not allowed a goal in her last four starts, a streak that extends 241:04… She ranks fifth nationally with a .963 save percentage and she is seventh in the country in goals against average (.91)… Her five shutouts are also tied for second in the nation.
 
OFF TO A GOOD START: The Pioneers, who are currently 9-2-1 on the year (5-2-1 ECAC West), are off to their best start since the 2006-2007 season, when Utica went 9-1-2 in its first 12 games… UC has outscored opponents 35-14 so far, and it is 5-1-1 at home this season.
 
FRESHMEN FITTING IN: Six different freshmen have found their name on the score sheet so far this season… Lauren Patterson (Burlington, Ontario/Oakville) leads all first year players with four goals and she is also second on the squad with 12 assists… Defender Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ) has four assists, while Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall), Taylor Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks), Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects), and Jennifer Liu (North Saanich, British Columbia/Shaftesbury Titans ) each have one goal.
 
SISTER ACT: The Pioneers have three sets of sisters on the squad this year… Senior captain Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy) and her sister Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall) have combined for three goals and seven assists… Taylor Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks) and Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ) have teamed up for one goal and five assists, and Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford Greenwave) and Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford Greenwave) have provided depth at the defensive position.  
 
SCORING AT WILL: Senior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) and junior Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) are both in the top ten nationally in points per game… Reed is fifth with 1.83 points per game, while Schnepp ranks ninth (1.67)… The duo, along with freshman Lauren Patterson (Burlington, Ontario/Oakville) make up the top line, which has been almost unstoppable this season… They have accounted for 22 of Utica's 35 goals on the year.
 
SCOUTING WILLIAMS: The Ephs are 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the NESCAC… Their two losses came by way of a 1-0 loss to Hamilton College and a 2-0 loss to Castleton University… Williams has played one common opponent that the Pioneers will face this season… Williams defeated ECAC West member, Buffalo State, 5-0 on Nov. 28… Buffalo State is currently one point ahead of Utica in the conference standings… The Pioneers take on the Bengals in the last weekend of the regular season (Feb. 20-21)… Williams is led by senior Michaela Levine, who has four goals and four assists through six games…  The Pioneers will have to solve sophomore goalie Christina Cleroux, who has an impressive .959 save percentage to go along with her .85 goals against average and two shutouts.
 
AGAINST THE EPHS: Utica is 5-1 against Williams in the last five years… Last year, the Pioneers came away from Williamstown, MA with a 4-1 victory over the Ephs… Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) and Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) each had three points, while Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos) had one goal and Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy), Veronique Lortie (Chambly, Quebec/Berkshire School), and Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) each had one helper. 
 
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers return to action after the New Year as they host nationally ranked No. 6 Norwich University on Jan. 10… Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
