Swim & Dive Set For Home Opener This Friday

Utica, NY - The Utica University swim & dive teams face off against William Smith College this Friday at the Utica Pool. The event will kick off at 6 p.m. with both teams looking to improve their record to 2-3. 
 
Last Time Out: The Utica University swim & dive teams both beat SUNY Delhi and fell to Hartwick College and the College of Saint Rose on Saturday. The women beat Delhi 136-34 and fell to Hartwick 168-65 and Saint Rose 154-81. The men beat Delhi 101-28 and lost to Hartwick 258-22 and Saint Rose 159-58. 
 
Pink Out: The Utica swim & dive teams ask those in attendance on Friday to wear pink for breast cancer awareness. 
 
Stand Out Swimmers: Bailey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) swam terrifically in the women's 50 yard freestyle as she placed third with a time of 27.12. Paige Levine (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East ) placed second in the women's 200 yard freestyle clocking in with a total time of 2:31.85. The two both swam excellent in the women's 200 yard relay and their times were on pace to break their times recorded at the Hartwick College Relays. Jackson Sorbello and Ronald Batario both did excellent in the men's 50 yard freestyle and finished top five. Sorbello placed fourth with a time of 23.65 and Batario earned fifth clocking in at 24.53. The two also placed top six in the 100 yard freestyle as Sorbello came in third with a time of 53.34 while Batario finished in sixth and clocked in at 57.11. The duo both had a faster pace than recorded in the Hartwick College Relays and look to break into mid season form.
 
Scouting William Smith: William Smith College is currently 3-1 on the season and has faced Ithaca, Buffalo State, and Fredonia twice. In those matches William Smith has amassed 488 total points. Notably from William Smith are Lea Emanuel, Hali Seidberg, and Daniel Barrientos who have all gathered major points for the Herons in events like the 1000 yard freestyle, 50 yard butterfly, 1 meter diving, as well as 3 meter diving. 

Up Next: The Pioneers will be on the road following this week against William Smith where the team will face off against Cazenovia College on Friday, November 4 at 6 p.m. at the Cazenovia Pool.
