Men's Golf Gears Up For Two-Day Invitational

UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's golf team gets set for a two-day invitational hosted by SUNY Oswego on Saturday, September 28 at 11 a.m. and Sunday the 29th at 10:30 a.m. The rounds will be played at the Oswego Country Club in Oswego, NY.

Follow Along: Results will be posted following the match.

Last Time At Oswego: Last fall at the Oswego Invit, Nathan Macdonald (Canton, MA/Canton) finished in tenth place on the second day of the tournament. He shot the same score as his day one card, shooting a 77, six-over-par, while scoring a team-best 154 overall, 12-over-par. Adam Woodmansee (Brewerton, NY/Paul V. Moore) tied for 16th overall, shooting a 77 on day two, completing the two-day tournament with 157 strokes. Neil Roman (Oswego, NY/Oswego) tied for 18th overall. He redeemed himself well on day two, shooting a 76, five-over-par.

Consistency: Woodmansee has played some spectacular golf lately. Against Canton on Wednesday at the Yahnundasis Golf Club, he holed eight consecutive pars on holes 10 thru 17. Louie Roman (Oswego, NY/Oswego) had a great first outing, scoring a 78. On holes four through nine he redeemed himself. Roman shot one over on three straight holes, then turned it around with five pars and one birdie while tying for first place overall.

About the Course: Oswego Country Club is among the Nation's oldest golf clubs, having been established in 1897. It currently sits on property that was previously known as the Murray and Littlefield farm.  The original course consisted of only six holes and the clubhouse was located near what is now known as the fourth hole.  Today's clubhouse was opened in 1903.  In 1915, world-renowned golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast redesigned and expanded the original course into what is now known as the Front Nine.

About the Lakers: The team has competed in four events, most recently at the St. John Fisher University Invitational. Oswego finished four out of four teams, with their highest finisher being Michael Douglas, who shot six-over-par and took fifth place. Oswego's best finish so far came at the Clarkson Invitational taking fourth place. Douglas finished with a 75, good for seventh place and a Laker top finish.

Up Next: Utica heads to Rochester, NY for the Empire 8 Championships on Sunday, October 6. The team will compete at the Lakeshore Yacht and Country Club in Cicero, NY starting at noon. On Monday, October 7 the Pioneers finish off day two for an 11 a.m. tee time.
