GLASSBORO, NJ - The Utica University women's cross country team finished the Rowan Border Battle on Saturday afternoon.
Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) paced the Pioneers with a 28th-place finish, crossing the line in 22:31.3. She opened fast with a 5:42.1 first mile and maintained a steady rhythm through the 4.25k mark at 15:50.2 before closing strong over the final stretch.
Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) followed with a solid race of her own, placing 87th overall in 23:32.2. Manna clocked a 5:53.6 opening mile and hit the 4.25k split in 16:18.6, finishing just over a minute behind Townsend.
Rounding out Utica's top three was Lacey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), who finished 146th with a time of 24:32.0. Simmons started with a 6:13.3 first mile and maintained her pace throughout, recording a 17:17.7 split at 4.25k.
Utica competes in its final race before the Empire 8 Championships at the Hamilton Short Course Tuneup on Saturday, October 25th, beginning at 11am.Â
