Senior goalkeeper Anthony Caruso of the Utica College men’s soccer team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Caruso was instrumental in UC’s 2-1 victory against Elmira on Saturday. The senior goalkeeper bought plenty of time for UC to build and maintain a healthy lead, as his highlight reel saves kept the Soaring Eagles off the board until there were less than two minutes to go in the contest. On the evening, Caruso faced six shots and turned away five of them as Utica punched its ticket to the Empire 8 tournament for the first time since 2010.

Caruso finishes the regular season with a goals allowed average of 1.20, which is the third best mark in the conference.

Second-seeded Utica begins the postseason on Wednesday as they host third-seeded Ithaca. The match has a 6 p.m. start time at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
