Utica, N.Y. (10-11-10) Junior midfielder #Avion Ashton# of the Utica College field hockey team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 10, 2010.  Ashton netted the game-winner 1:54 into overtime to guide the Pioneers to a 2-1 victory over Empire 8 Conference foe Hartwick College on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Saturday night. 

Ashton, who was also named the conference’s player of the week for her efforts, assisted on the game’s first goal (scored by Jessica Ahearn) as the Pioneers’ defeated Hartwick for the first time since 2007.    

An international student from Trinidad, Ashton has been one of the Pioneers most consistent players of the course of the last three seasons.  She was an all-conference selection one year ago and this season she has racked up six points on two goals and two assists in 12 games played. 

The Pioneers currently sit in a tie for second place in the Empire 8. With a 3-1 record in conference play they have an excellent shot at advancing to the conference tournament for the first time since its inception in 2007.
