Utica, NY (4-9-12) – Junior Meghan Matan, of the Utica College softball team, was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week Monday.

Despite UC going 1-5 this past week, Matan continued her solid performance at the dish batting .478 over the six games.  She led the Pioneer offense in every category as she went 11-for-23 with five runs scored, three stolen bases and two doubles.  Her .565% slugging percentage and .478 on base percentages were also team-high’s.

On the season, Matan has started all 23 games for Utica while leading the squad in batting average (.500), at bats (86), hits (43), runs (18), stolen bases (13) and doubles (six).

UC is now 14-9 overall including a 1-3 mark in the Empire 8.  The Pioneers return to the field Tuesday as they cross town to Clinton, NY for a double header against Hamilton College.  Game one is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Ferguson Intramural Fields.
