Utica, NY (4/1/13) – Senior attack Ben Winkler of the Utica College men’s lacrosse team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for his efforts on the field last week.
Winkler netted one goal and grabbed four groundballs in the Pioneers 14-8 loss to Nazareth on March 27. He bounced back on March 29 as the Pioneers defeated Misericordia, 10-9, in overtime. Winkler tallied two goals and three groundballs in the victory. His second and game-winning goal in overtime marked his 100th career goal as a Pioneer. He is only the third player in program-history to reach this feat.
Winkler has totaled 17 goals and five assists this season so far, good enough for 22 total points. He has also added a team-high 77 shots (35 on goal) and 11 groundballs on the year.
The Pioneers are currently 4-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. They return to action Wednesday, April 3 as they travel to Hartwick College for an Empire 8 match-up. Game time is set for 4 p.m. The Pioneers return home on Saturday, April 6 as they take on E8 rival Alfred University at 1 p.m.
