UTICA, NY- Utica College softball player Courtney Fitzgerald was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week, Monday, after closing out her final conference games in record-breaking fashion over the weekend.

Fitzgerald, who had already captured the program’s record for career home runs and doubles earlier in the season, set a new record for career RBI over the weekend. Going into the Pioneers’ games with Elmira, Fitzgerald was only one RBI shy of the previous record holder, Abby Drew ’09. She closed out the two-game sweep driving in nine runners, pushing the new record and her career total to 126 RBIs.

On the season, Fitzgerald owns a .262 batting average, with a team-best 26 RBI and four home runs.  She has the potential to push her record even further as the Pioneers have four more games in their 2015 campaign. The first game of the week is scheduled for Tuesday at home against Cazenovia College (4 p.m.) and the squad closes out the season Wednesday at cross-town rival, SUNY Poly (3:30 p.m.).
