Utica, N.Y. (9/19/2011) – Senior captain Jon Wood (Derry, NH / Pinkerton) led all scorers with seven points last week on his way to earning the College’s Male Athlete of the Week award. Wood netted the game-winner in the Pioneers’ 1-0 victory over Clarkson on Wednesday, and he added a season-high two goals in the Pioneers 8-0 win over Elms on Sunday.
Wood also assisted sophomore Jon Peterson in the Pioneers’ 2-1 loss to Naz on Saturday night. He now ranks second on the team and second in the conference, behind teammate Kevin McAllister, with 10 points this season (three goals, four assists). He has a team-best four assists, to go along with two game-winning goals.
The Pioneers have now shut out four opponents this season and they are currently 4-2 overall on the year.
UC, which has played five of its first six games at home, will now hit the road for two straight contests, beginning with Empire 8 Conference foe St. John Fisher College Saturday at 5 p.m.
