Utica University Athletics

Utica, NY (September 22, 2014) – Freshman midfielder Bita Gazashvili of the Utica College men’s soccer team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

Gazashvili came off the bench against Houghton Saturday night and made an immediate impact with one shot on goal and two assists. His first assist came in the 62nd minute when he linked up with Chris Stashko for the game-tying goal. He added an assist on the game-winner as he used some fancy footwork to beat three defenders and center a pass to Shane Ruffing who put it home.

Gazashvili has played in all seven games, while starting four. He currently leads the Empire 8 Conference with four assists and he has one goal on the season against Purchase College.

The Pioneers return to the pitch on Tuesday when they host Hamilton College at 7 p.m.
