Utica, NY - Freshman Dante Zapata of the Utica College men's hockey team has been named UC Male Athlete of the Week for his performance in a 4-1 victory over Morrisville State Saturday night. This contest was one of the biggest of the year, as the Pioneers played in front of a sold out crowd at the Adirondack Bank Center for the New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss.

Zapata notched the first goal of the game, which was immediately followed by a wave of teddy bears poring onto the ice from the stands above. The 6-foot-1 California native then added one assist to his statline in the third period on a feed to John Moncovich to extend the Pioneers lead to 3-1.

UC advanced to 7-2-2 with this win and will return to action Saturday, January 4 at Adrian College. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
